SOR ASKS:

WHAT IS YOUR PREDICTION
FOR THE REST OF 2024?

CHARLOTTE

"My prediction is that artists will soon find love."

BEN

"Funselector music coming 2042 #music."

NIKKI

"I predict that the U.S. will start seeing trade sanctions from other countries as punishment for our support of Israel and on a consumer level there will be a weird grocery crisis."

GALACIA

"more emo/grunge + breaks fusion by the end of this year!!"

IZZVETTA

"I would say I'm seeing a general rise in detroit techno as well as breakbeat and drum n bass (maybe this is just the new york scene but I'm noticing it in other places too). I think we're stepping out from the usual techno/trance we hear at clubs a lot into more intricate subgenres which I find very interesting. The general trend of electronic music is rising a lot and is becoming a very common lifestyle which I think will be even more visible further down the line."

BENTLEY

"My prediction for 2024 is either something like a famine cause food is getting weird or like a christmas miracle idfk i don’t predict much these days seems better to just survive in the present - prophecy makes me fear."

GEORGE

"More music."

SEAN

"Prediction for 2024 is more textural sounds like monolake and field recordings in electronic music I think that is dope af."

NARUMI

"nowadays everyone wants to be quirky and with social media techno has become this new aesthetic/ genre for people to be “obsessed” over forcing techno spaces to try harder to revive the exclusivity it once had. but these scenes also still need the help of this new crowd to keep business afloat as “regular” ravers dont frequent the bar. although we are already currently in this state i believe this will last for atleast another year :/."

BRIAR

"I feel that more and more femme-led performers are arising with a spoken, almost apathetic tone—I’ve been loving my sad, monotonous femmes (HTRK, and the more recent Chanel Beads). This and a fainting couch is enough to lounge inside all day, one hand limply resting on the forehead."

ALI

"Nowadays closing will devastate the number of polycules in the city."

VINNY

“I think techno is going to get more mainstream in the sense that people are going to use techno as an aesthetic rather than appreciating the genre and the story behind it.”

ZOE

"Techno proves itself to be a genre that brings together a community without the simple necessities of socializing, or communicating. It brings about community without communication. In 2024 with the rise of techno as a “popular aesthetic” the scene transitions from a collective body to a social site. (Does this make sense idk)."

KHAKI

"and this one is a big question, I gtt say it’ll be leaning towards breakbeats and jungle type of beat."

ANDREI

"I hope hardcore fucking dies. Even the happy one:)."

WILLIAM

"I don’t know if I have any intelligent predictions for the world of electronic music as a whole. I liked the last AG Cook album and a lot of people are jacking the new Charli XCX which I think he produced. I would say if anything there will probably be more pop artists seeking production assists from electronic artists like Arca, leading to this heavier electronic sound becoming more mainstream in pop music. I’ve heard some tracks out already that seem to be after this kind of SOPHIE-esque sound. As it becomes more popular I feel like because its so unique, it will quickly become overdone. Maybe we’re already there. I think its such a shame because that sound was so fresh when she was coming up, now people seem to be using it for a quick hit."

ALEXIS

"lollll idrk I think it’s gonna be interesting to see if the Bushwick dj emergence will continue."

TAY

"I predict that dubstep will become the most successful and popular genre of all time, completely monopolizing the music industry and fundamentally altering human society as we know it."

VIOLET

"I think there will be an influx of hyperpop!"

JUSTIN

"My prediction for 2024 is more people are gonna start realizing they’re gonna have to take things more seriously when it comes to their craft whether that be music or raves. People are asking for better things for their buck and you’re gonna have to sink or swim."

ASHE

"Skrillex Bossa Takeover."

ARVIN

"Every dj is going to play tracks with piano riffs in them at every festival and club the rest of 2024."

DANIELLE

"Saint Vitus will reopen before the end of the year and Nowadays will announce its shutting down."

DEVOYE

"I imagine the rest of 2024 is going to be really intense for everyone in the creative world and beyond. Feeling the crunch of the crumbling imperial system/military industrial complex. I often imagine a world of liberation when im Djing. Depending on the style of music, it could be a more utopian vision or burning it all down in celebration of the fall. Wishing we could move closer to a Free Palestine and a world that is washed from colonial grips. Im here for dancing and expressing through the essence of liberation and freedom."

ERIC

"I’m predicting/hoping for more slut music. Similarly to how early 2010’s had all these songs about “going out and having a good time dancing” I want more music about whoring out."

ALYA

"I predict and hope for more dancers with careless attitude of type of dancing and constrained movement on floor, but not tango style or smth, maybe less care for acting part of the going out and more going for music, maybe. Also predict people making use of their talents in ways that will help more see the evil in world and talk about it and be grateful for what we have. Realize privilege of being able to listen and dance in our spaces. Strive to also talk more seriously about this scene generally. what’s happening in our brains and hearts, bottom of feet hurt but."

RIVER

"For 2024 I think people will start tapping into the power that is beheld at their fingertips."

BELLA

"Trance, slutty/cunty techno, pop/hip hop/rock techno remixes in the club. (in moderation) but throw one in there to change it up a little. I want DJs to be a lil silly and fun sometimes, those are my favorites sets and they can still be super hard. Also, DJing is for the girlies and they do it best. (Not really a prediction but a request I guess)."

VANYA

"I predict shows and clubs will continue to get more expensive, but to counter that more radical energy into diy scenes and their presence ... i hope."
